What is the purpose of a Tiger Teeth Directional Traffic Controller?
Generally speaking, Tiger Teeth/Traffic Spike Directional Traffic Controllers are multi-purpose barriers for things like parking lots, garages, etc. Typically they function like any other one-way traffic spike barrier with a few key differences.
- The Spikes are NOT static
- They are typically wider than other Spikes
- They are most commonly used alongside Barrier Gates
In most other traffic spike systems, the spikes are static. What this means is that they are set at whatever fixed position they are installed in and do not move from that point unless directly removed. Where a Directional Traffic Controller differs is that these allow the spikes to be raised and lowered dependent on the controller, so that could be manual or automatic. It should be noted that in either case, the spikes to not change from one side to the other, meaning that if the spikes are facing towards the road, that is the direction they will remain unless uninstalled. They can only be raised and lowered by a Directional Traffic Controller.
Most traffic spike systems are between 2' and 5' feet wide where as Directional Traffic Controllers can be upwards of 9' Feet or even longer! This is due to a few factors including needing extra room for the motor as well as the hardware underneath, needing to spread more weight along its surface as these are generally used in heavy-duty situations, and needing to be more visible to the public.
The main factor as to why a Directional Traffic controller would be so long is that it is more than likely being used in conjunction with a barrier gate of some kind. Whether it's a Vertical, Swing, Automatic, or even Mobile Barrier gate, most Tiger Teeth Directional Traffic Controllers are used with these barrier gates as not only were they designed specifically to be paired with them, together they offer the most amount of security possible.
